Statement from... Kerri Tombleson Rowena Stevenson Todd Stevenson Ken McFarlane Alison McFarlane
Kerri Tombleson I believe that children need to be able to look at all things from a biblical perspective. There is a catch phrase that is very popular at the moment; ‘What would Jesus do.’ I think children also need to be able to think, ‘what does the bible say’ about this or that. Christian education should not be just one period of ‘R.E,’ but throughout every aspect of their schooling.
What does Christian Education mean to me?
For children to be able to go to a school that supports and reinforces what is being taught at home rather than opposing what Christians believe on matters such as creation and evolution. It’s a place where children learn to put Christ at the centre of their lives rather than themselves. To have children so firmly grounded in biblical truths that they are more able to share this with others. 2001
Rowena Stevenson I became convicted of the need for Christian Education when our eldest child was only three years old. Now thirteen years later I am still convinced that to train children with God’s Word at the core of their education is the only way to prepare them for modern life. My passion is to teach children to reason biblically so that every decision they make in life is based on the firm foundation of God’s Word. Although I am now involved mainly in the administration of the school I delight in seeing children develop a sense of awe and worship as they discover God active in His world – particularly through the patterns of maths and the systems of science. 2001
Todd Stevenson I first became interested in Christian education just prior to my first son reaching age 5. I wanted to make sure that he reached his potential not only physically and mentally, but also spiritually.
All children are special to God and Christian Education is the only educational outlet where that specialness can be promoted and where children can be taught the love of God and to respect him and his creation. 2001
Ken McFarlane I became convinced of the necessity for Christ Centred education through a realisation that in spite of what I had been taught in a secular education, that I could believe Genesis 1.1 and retain my scientific integrity. Suddenly it all fell into place. It truly was God's world and we could only really understand what we were learning with God as the foundation point. I wanted my children to learn the truth and so I became involved in the establishment of the school. 2001
Alison McFarlane It has taken me a long time to develop a Christian world view as an adult, coming from a secular education system, and I am still struggling with this. Christian education gives children a world view that is based on God, the Creator and Sustainer, and this forms the basis for all their decision making, and thought processes throughout life. 2001
