The Gisborne Christian Education Trust is an incorporated charitable trust, established in 1993 to operate Sonrise Christian School. Until October 1999 the Trust was the governing body of the school. On the 4th October 1999 the school integrated with the state education system to become an integrated school of special character.
As in all state schools, a separate Board of Trustees is responsible for the operation of the school, and the New Zealand Government funds the day to day costs of the school.
The Gisborne Christian Education Trust is specifically responsible for the special character of the school, and for the provision of land and buildings.
At the moment the school is operating in temporary premises in the Sunday school rooms of Mangapapa Union Parish Church. The agreement between the Government and the Gisborne Christian Education Trust requires that a permanent site be established by 1 July 2002.
Funding for this needs to be raised by the Gisborne Christian Education Trust. It is possible to borrow some of the money, and recover this from fees charged to students attending, but we need to keep the fees as low as possible. High fees will limit the ability of people to come to the school. For this reason, through God's leading and direction we have established this fund raising project.
