Dear Parents/Caregivers
Tena Koutou Katoa
Greetings to you all
The Life Education van is at school for most of this week. The theme being covered is ‘Self Esteem’ with the younger children focusing on what makes them special and the older students being challenged about substance abuse and the dangers inherent in their use. Take the opportunity to speak with your child about what they have been learning and how God has made each one of us unique and loved by Him.
One of the questions I am often asked by parents is “What is some software that I can buy to use at home to improve my child’s Maths (or reading)?”
Attached to this newsletter is a brochure with a number of programs which are available for purchase. I can recommend quite a few of them as we use them at school and the children enjoy using them. If you are interested in purchasing software for your child then here is your opportunity. If you have any questions feel free to speak to me.
Head lice still seem to be a problem at school. They are small, flat insects about 2-3cm long that breed all year round. They live on the human scalp, they cannot jump, fly or swim and they also do not carry disease. Head lice do however remain on the head after swimming or bathing/showering. School aged children should be checked regularly once a week for head lice. Look over the scalp for insects or eggs, particularly around the hairline at the back of the neck, behind the ears and on the crown. Using a fine tooth comb on wet hair with conditioner left in, is the best way to detect head lice. Treatment is needed if you find a live insect on the scalp or if you find eggs within 1cm of the scalp. Speak to your doctor, practice nurse or pharmacist for advice about what treatment to use and how to use it.
