Dear Parents/Caregivers

Tena Koutou Katoa

This newsletter has been sent out a day earlier as I wanted to inform you that we won’t have banking day tomorrow (Wednesday) because the senior classes and the tellers are all away. Please keep your money for next week.

This is a very busy week for all:

  • Monday - Roll Count Day
  • Tuesday - Rooms 1 & 2 - Swimming Sports and Rooms 4 &5 on the Te Unga Mai Programme
  • Wednesday - Rooms 4 & 5 on the Te Unga Mai Programme;
    Rooms 2 & 3 at the Triathlon
Mrs. Gabriel at National Standards training
  • Thursday - Rooms 4 & 5 on the Te Unga Mai Programme
Years 3 & 4 - STAR testing to be completed.
  • Friday - All classes back at school. Swimming for all classes. Years 5-9 STAR testing to be completed.

Reporting to Parents

We will be having informal parent/teacher interviews during week 8 of this term. Last week I sent home a notice, Reporting to Parents Schedule. The staff would like to have a parent/teacher interview to inform you quite early on how your child is getting on. We are required to report to our parents twice per year. This is usually done in June and December. Please be aware that you may see your child’s teacher anytime during the school year. All we ask is that you make an appointment so that the time can be set aside to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher. It is not a good idea to have a ‘corridor meeting’ at the start of the school day as teachers are getting ready for their classes. We value your input and support as we want the same things that you want for your child.

Swimming

Last week about 40% of students came unprepared for swimming. Some students had very ‘flimsy’ excuses why they were not swimming. Your child will only be excused from swimming for medical reasons and you need to send in a medical certificate. The school pays for the use of the swimming pool and the entry fee for each student, so we cannot afford to waste the money with children deliberately not bringing their togs. This is also a compulsory component of the Health and Physical Education curriculum:

See page 22 of the NZCurriculum - it is expected that all students will have had opportunities to learn basic aquatic skills …

Board of Trustee Elections

Any questions or queries to Bev Coombes as she is the Returning Officer.

Head Lice

This menace is raising its ugly head again! Please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. Some children are very susceptible to this menace so please ensure that your child is free of this menace so that it does not spread in the school. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Sunhats

Summer is still with us and your children must bring their school hats to school. There are too many students who do not have a school hat.

Book Club Orders

Are due on Wednesday 10 March.
